Queer Books Archive
Doors: 6.30pm
Event: 7-8pm
Join Lavender Menace for an in-person conversation with the wonderful Andrés N. Ordorica. We are excited to discuss his poetry and much-anticipated debut novel How We Named the Stars while exploring themes of in-betweenness in queer history, memory, and the archive.
Andrés N. Ordorica is a queer Latinx writer based in Edinburgh. Drawing on his family’s immigrant history and third culture upbringing, his writing maps the journey of diaspora and unpacks what it means to be from ni de aquí, ni de allá (neither here, nor there). He is the author of the poetry collection At Least This I Know and novel How We Named the Stars. He has been shortlisted for the Morley Lit Prize, the Mo Siewcharran Prize and the Saltire Society’s Poetry Book of The Year. In 2024, he was selected as one of The Observer’s 10 Best Debut Novelists.
Dr Alejandro Escalante an ethnographer interested in the performances of gender and race, and their co-imbrications. His work draws from Black studies, Caribbean theory and philosophy, and queer theory to trace the various ways we make, re-make, and can unmake ourselves. Aspects of this research have been published in Transgender Studies Quarterly, the Journal of Africana Religions, and a forthcoming chapter, “Playful Masculinity” in Religion in the Americas: Transcultural and Trans-hemispheric Approaches (University of New Mexico Press).
